Why Chess

Chess teaches logic and helps children in improving problem-solving and critical thinking skills. Chess teaches the importance of planning and helps in developing the strategy and improving enhancing creative thinking.

Our method

We conduct live interactive classes in small groups and one-to-one mode. A quiz usually accompanies group classes for each session. Please see below a short video from one of our earlier batches.

Group classes

It is recommended that you purchase a physical chessboard for practicing at home. We will be using a virtual chessboard in our online classroom. If we don't have a minimum of 2 participants, the course will be rescheduled/ refunded.

This 'beginner level 1' course teaches the student the basic moves and rules of Chess and helps to start playing the game. This course is for beginners, and no knowledge of chess is expected for this course.

The topics covered are as below - Level 1 - Kids - (5 Days 1.5 hours or 8 days 1 hour)
  1. Chessboard, pieces and points, Chess Movements, Notations
  2. Attacking and Capturing, Checkmate, Stalemate
  3. Special moves - Castling
  4. Special moves - Pawn promotion & En-Passant
  5. Simple and Profitable Exchange and Revision test

This 'beginner level 2' course teaches the student the beginner level topics and helps to get more understanding of the basic techniques. This course is for those who understand the basic rules of chess or those who completed our "Beginner level 1" course.

The topics covered are as below - Level 2 - Kids - (6 Days 1.5 hours or 9 days 1 hour each)
  1. Revision - Attack and Capture, Exchanges, Checkmate, Stalemate, Special moves
  2. Stages of a game, The key principles of the opening
  3. Basic Tactics: The Pin / The skewer/ The Fork ( Theory plus practical)
  4. Draw, King Vs. King + Pawn end game (Concept of opposition)
  5. Basic Checkmates - Queen checkmate, Rook checkmate
  6. One move' mate and revision test

This 'beginner level 3' course teaches the student the beginner level topics and helps to get more understanding of the basic techniques and beginner-level topics of strategies. This course is for those who understand the basic rules of chess or those who completed our "Beginner level 2" course.

The topics covered are as below - Level 3 -Kids - (6 Days 1.5 hours or 9 days 1 hour each)
  1. Revision of Level 2 concepts,The King's Pawn opening (e4 - e5)
  2. (e4 - e5) continued. Introduction to the Guico Piano
  3. The QGD ( Queens Gambit Declined)
  4. QGD continued plus concept of backrank ( Theory plus practical)
  5. The 2 Bishop Checkmate and its revision
  6. Introduction to 2 move checkmates ( Theory plus practical)

Beginner Level 4 and intermediate levels onwards various Chess strategies are taught. Students are prepared for tournament-play, and tips are provided. We also give private classes customized based on the speed and requirement of each student.

Tournament

Classvio conducts online tournaments U-9 and 10-12 year age. The tournament is open for all our chess students and other beginner players for a minimal fee of S$10. This is to allow our students to understand the tournament rules and give the experience of tournament playing.

Instructors

Tejas teaches our group classes. He is a FIDE Rated Chess player with the highest rating of 2090. He has won awards at many national tournaments notably Individual Board Prize at National Team Championships 2004 (India). State-level Bronze in the National Team Games 2006. After 2008, he has regularly participated and won in National Level University Tournaments. Tejas hopes to improve student's concentration and patience level apart from the achievements in the field of chess through his teachings.

We have a few other Chess teachers who can give individual classes from S$22 per hour onwards.
